We don’t know what day in 1820 Harriet Tubman was born, but she died, today March 10th 1913. Harriet Tubman was a courageous and fascinating figure, escaping slavery herself and then helping her family and many others who were enslaved to freedom through the “Underground Railroad“. She also was the first woman to lead an armed expedition in the Civil War.
She was also a spy, a cook and a nurse during the war. During this time she also supported herself selling pies and root beer.
Later in life she was active in the women’s suffrage movement. And she did all this despite a serious head injury she got as a child that caused headaches, narcolepsy and seizures. She also had visions and dreams that she took to be revelations from God.
