Rosa Parks would have been 101 years old today. She is best remembered for refusing to give up her seat on a Montgomery bus, leading to the Montgomery Bus Boycott, an important chapter in the Civil Rights Movement. The story often goes that Ms. Parks was a tired seamstress, which is true, but she was also the secretary of the Montgomery chapter of the NAACP and this act of civil disobedience was planned. She was, however, fired from her seamstress job as a result. For more on the arrest read here. The bus is now in the Henry Ford Museum.
