Pies of Summer

nectarine blackberry or strawberry rhubarb pie at petaluma pie company, petaluma, californiaDid you notice the days getting a little shorter and the chill in the air in the evenings? Some of you are even back in school! That is right, it is the tail end of summer. If you want to hang on to that summer feeling just a little longer, we’ve got you covered. While we have gotten word that peaches will be ending a few weeks earlier than normal this year, summer fruit pies are still happening, like peach, nectarine blackberry, triple berry and strawberry rhubarb. And we have ice cream. If you are feeling more autumnal, we’ve got apples again and we even have apple pecan crumble with salted caramel. Pear pie is just around the corner.

organic strawberries at Petaluma Pie CompanyHey Everybody, it’s Friday again! Spring is still here and this time of year is all about strawberries, which are the only new fruit we have around at the moment. We have Strawberry Cream pie, which is much like our Banana Cream pie, our vanilla pastry cream with fresh organic fruit sliced up inside, topped with organic Straus whipped cream. If you are in a more wholesome, old fashioned mood, Strawberry Rhubarb (yes, we have rhubarb!) is the thing for you and – remember the à la mode! You can top it with a scoop of Straus organic vanilla ice cream!

As always, you can drop in and see what we have but if you really really want a pie of your own, your best bet is to order ahead on our website or call the shop at 707-7mmm-PIE (766-6743).

We are open until 9 on Friday and Saturday!

Signs of spring…

It is another beautiful sunny day in Petaluma, but fortunately, rain is coming this week. Out in the pie garden there are signs of spring stirring. Asparagus is just poking it’s head out and rhubarb is waking up also. March is just around the corner, bringing with it the pies of March!

Today, of course, pie is what is for lunch, dinner afternoon snack or dessert.

Gracie Allen liked pie
Today is also the birthday of comedy icon, Gracie Allen,co-star with George Burns on the “Burns and Allen Show”. In addition to making pie from sponsor Carnation Evaporated milk, one early episode features the following, “In the second early episode, a teenaged friend of George and Gracie’s stays with them for the weekend. While helping young Emily with her Geometry homework, Gracie voices her concerns about the education system. Gracie is absolutely certain that “pie are round … not squared!””

And it is also the birthday of Mick Jagger, who is supposedly the subject of a verse towards the end of that endless song, “American Pie”. Mick Jagger is also a fan of Indian food and being English, must like pie. He should have our Curried Cauliflower and Chickpea pie!

Spring is in the air…

nectarine blossoms

The trees are springing to life with flowers and leaves, a sign of fruits and pies to come. The rhubarb is almost here. It still is not quite officially spring, but daylight savings begins this Sunday March 10 and the equinox is on the 20th. Right now it is still a little cold and dreary and threatening to rain. Perfect weather for a pot pie and hot chocolate!

And while you were sleeping, we’ve been working on our new website. Check it out!
